Pre-Professional Ballet Training

Why Study at BCA? Simply put: BCA provides outstanding ballet training and has a placement record to prove it.

Our dancers routinely win admission to the finest ballet academies, conservatories, and universities in the U.S., no ifs, ands, or buts about it. And that includes School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre School, San Francisco Ballet School, and North Carolina School of the Arts.

But it's not easy. Commit to our recommended schedule and you'll take a ton of class. In fact, 10-12 year olds take class four days a week and and if you're 13 or over you take class six days a week.

While we would love for our pre-professional ballet dancers to take all their recommended classes at BCA, we feel that forcing you to do so doesn't do anyone any good. That's why BCA's pre-professional program is "Open Door."

In other words, we want you here because you want to be, not because you have to be.

Any dancer -- provided they can work at the appropriate level and gain permission of the instructor -- is welcome to take any class in BCA's pre-professional recommended schedules. In addition, special private lessons and coaching sessions are also available for any pre-professional dancer, regardless of where they study.

We'll push you beyond your limits. We'll open your eyes to ballet technique in a way you never imagined. You'll do things in class -- and on stage -- that you never even dreamed of. And you'll do it quickly. What takes some training program years, we can usually accomplish in a fraction of that time.

You'll work harder than you've ever worked in your life. And you'll love every minute of it.

But we don't just train technicians. We train young artists who want to use their ballet technique to find out who they really are and what they really want to do as dance artists. We'll teach you how and why to honor your main goal as a dancer: To delight and inspire audiences with breath-taking beauty.

If you commit to study with us, you have an excellent chance of winning a dance scholarship to college, gaining admission to just about any professional ballet program you wish, or taking your shot at the dance profession. We'll give you the tools you need to be successful.

The rest is up to you.

Our Senior Company Is NOT For Everybody

For dancers looking for outstanding performing opportunities, think about BCA's Senior Company. Made up of dancers who have a strong interest in pursuing ballet beyond high school, the Senior Company will be the back-bone for BCA's ballet productions. Plus, you'll get an opportunity to perform at Asheville's Diana Wortham Theatre, an ideal theater space for dance and the undisputed dance-venue-of-choice for companies the world over.

For the 2009-2010 season, BCA will stage The Nutcracker December 18, 2009 and the most fabulous romantic ballet of all time -- Giselle -- on June 3 and 4, 2010. Dancers who would like to be a member of the Senior Company must pass an audition, be recommended by Angie Lynn and Wayne Burritt, take at least three ballet classes per week, and attend Saturday rehearsals. Only one of a Senior Company dancer's three classes need to be taken at BCA. All shows will have set rehearsal schedules, but you can plan on most Saturday afternoons and some Sunday afternoons being taken up by rehearsal.

BCA's Senior Company program isn't easy and it's not for everyone. But if you're up to it, we'd love to talk to you.

For more information about BCA's pre-professional program, BCA's Senior Company, or other details please call us (828-255-5777) or email us (angielynnballet@cs.com). We'd love to hear from you.

BCA's Youth Company

If you're not yet 13, you can participate in BCA's Youth Company. These talented young dancers provide important roles for our ballets. The Youth Company rehearses on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:30pm and on some Saturdays and Sundays. And you need to take at least two ballet classes per week. See Angie for more details.

Why We're Here

One of BCA's primary goals is to help talented dancers gain acceptance to top academies, conservatories, and universities. In fact, our students have been placed in many of the "top-tier" ballet schools, academies, and universities in the U.S., including School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre School, San Francisco Ballet School, North Carolina School of the Arts, and New York University/Tisch School of the Arts. Our students have also won positions in leading ballet companies -- including Miami City Ballet, Nashville Ballet, and Ballet Tech -- as well as on Broadway. Go here for a complete list of our placement success.

Below is our recommended schedule for pre-professional dancers ages 10 to 12 and 13 plus. If a dancer sticks with this schedule -- and works harder than they've ever worked before -- their chances of winning one of the coveted "top spots" in a leading academy, university, or company are extremely high.
